Transfer of ownership of former RWS tower in Arnhem a reality

November 5, 2015

PRESS RELEASE

Transfer of ownership of former RWS tower in Arnhem a reality

Arnhem – Student housing provider SSHN has acquired the ownership of the former office of the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management (Rijkswaterstaat) at Gildemeesterplein 1 in Arnhem from a private investor. SSHN will transform the 14,000 sqm office building into 294 residential units for both international and regular students. The international students study at the universities of applied sciences of Arnhem and Nijmegen (HAN). The building comprises a ground floor and tower with a total of 20 floors. With this development, SSHN is responding to the demands of HAN and the Municipality of Arnhem for a higher quality and greater supply of student housing in Arnhem. SSHN expects to complete the transformation at the end of 2016.

The Province of Gelderland and the Municipality of Arnhem are supporting this project both administratively and financially, in view of the significance of this major office transformation outside the Randstad conurbation. With the conversion of the building into student housing, many years of vacancy will come to an end and the building will be given a brand-new, modern appearance.

SSHN is a leading student housing provider in Nijmegen, and now too in Arnhem. It focuses specifically on young students and other individuals who need accommodation in Nijmegen for a short period.

Asset manager Proptimize, in collaboration with Osborne Clarke, represented the interests of the vendor, a private investor. Poelmann Van den Broek Advocaten advised the purchaser SSHN.
